It's historically immersive and the marksmanship is so much fun - it just feels natural. I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in the era or the weapons.. I've played their first game Verdun and really liked it. It was something that had never been done, and that's a good WW1 game. Attack and defence of trenches literally how it would have been done in WW1. So when the anounced the "eastern front" I was a bit sceptical of the new game because I liked Verdun so much. BUT I should have bought the game earlier, because its really good. No longer conventional trench warfare I feel that Manuver is a way better mode. Graphics look even better, and they have cool map features like varying weather conditions. Historic accuracy is top notch (in both games) 10/10 would recommend. Tannenberg is a great game. Let me explain why. Before I do so, I should tell you what I am not going to write about. If you would like to know what Tannenberg is all about and would like to get more details on maps, weapons, game play etc. please look at the manuals and FAQ’s that are around. I just want to give you my personal impression of the game.I was looking for a game that depicted fighting in World War One as realistically as can be expected from a computer game that has to combine realism with fun in order to sell. Tannenberg, in my opinion, is the perfect combination of both: a maximum of fun with a maximum of realism. When I first started a game in Tannenberg I was immediately taken in by the graphics. The landscape was modelled with great love for detail and with an excellent eye for the real looks of the depicted regions. The roads through the woods in the East Prussia map are a wonderful example of this realism. I know the northern woods and can attest to it that the East Prussia of Tannenberg feels absolutely real. The same can be said about the weapons. Sounds, loading process, handling – all these were fashioned in a way that leaves you with an impression of really handling these rifles, carbines and pistols.Another strong point of Tannenberg is that you can play it with all kinds of different goals. You may go for achieving a maximum of personal points. If you aim for this, you have to follow the orders of your NCO. You may go for the overall victory of your side. In that case you will try to take enemy strongholds and aggressively press your opponent. Or you may simply try to stay alive for as long as possible, or alternatively, you may try to score as many kills as possible which leads to a quite aggressive style of playing. If you are new to the game, here are some pieces of advice. In the beginning Tannenberg can be quite frustrating. Though the handling of the controls is quite easy, a newbie is at a great disadvantage for not knowing the maps and the survival tactics. There a countless hide-outs or - let us rather call them - favorable positions from which to surprise attack your opponents. In order to get to know the controls, the maps and the handling of your weapons you should start with a few offline games. In these you will only fight against bots. Bots give you more time to react, don’t shoot as accurate as humans and don’t set traps for you. After you learned how to use the controls and got a first impression you should join games with a relative small number of human opponents. You will soon learn the difference between humans and bots! Once you mastered the basics you can start participating in games of up to 68 players. And here the fun really starts.Try the different types of troop members. Read about their strength and weaknesses. Use the type of soldier that comes closest to your style of fighting and the requirements of the map. For example, if you like to stay away from close-range fighting select a role in which you have a long range rifle at your disposal. If close range is your thing make sure to carry a pistol.Remember that Tannenberg is a group based game. It makes sense to stay with your platoon, because that multiplies your fire-power. However, be aware that human opponents will try to outflank you and kill you from behind. The game forces you to keep an eye on all of your surroundings. One last thing I would like to mention is that I am playing with really out-dated hardware and still the game is great fun for me. The disadvantage of out-dated hardware lies in the graphics. Tannenberg is very much about who sees whom first. For this reason try not to fight with the sun in your eyes and whenever possible seek a position hidden in the shadows. But I am sure you will soon get the hang of it and then you will enjoy it as much as I do.When you meet me on the battlefield, remember not to shoot me, because I wrote this hopefully helpful review for you.. this game is a failure. it looks okay, and the sound is good. the controls are decent, but there's a frustrating delay to everything. i guess this is to give a more 'authentic' feel or something, but it's quite annoying to attempt to bayonet rush a guy when you're out of bullets, only to watch your avatar confusedly fumble around deciding how to reload, stand up, and move at the same time.the maps are functionally identical, and just not very interesting.most damning, the bot ai is just...tragic. this means that meaningful strategy is alternately impossible or pointless, and without that, there's just nothing left.. The game is fun don't get me wrong, but it's not what it sets out to be.Realism? yeah, kinda... no bullet physics, no crouched running, bad AI...I would go for Red Orchestra for a more polished concept / gameAlso game modes are infuriating. The balance is terrible and there's no way to be organized with the delay system. Conquer too much, spread yourself too thin and the zerg rush the game unleashes upon you with OCEANS of bots becomes...broken.For new comers to the tactical shooter this will be hell. For veterans that come from RO2/RS/Vietnam, Insurgency or the Arma series, this is waaaaay too unpolished and arcade. My review: Broken and tedious. PS: Try Red Orchestra 2 or Rising storm Vietnam. Saddly it's not WW1 but at least is decently made.. This is the first time I have had fun playing a shooter in a loooong time. :D
